Your art is photographed under controlled lighting conditions using colour temperature controlled linear lighting heads. Linear lights produce a totally even light over large areas, ensuring that there are no variations in density across the original art.
If your art is produced using oils, it has probably been varnished as well. As you can see from the example on the left, reflections from the surface of the painting cannot be avoided without special techniques. I use polarised light in these situations. Polarising filters are fitted to the lights and the camera and when correctly aligned, totally eliminate surface reflections and allow the full richness of detail to show through, even in the darkest areas.
Using
a very high resolution large format digital camera, your art is photographed
to produce images that are incredibly sharp with a wide tonal range that
captures even the most subtle detail. The images produced are suitable
for large reproduction but can easily be reduced in size for use on flyers
or website.
The example opposite shows an enlarged section from an original 4'x4'
oil painting. After photography the imaged is 'processed'. Very few adjustments
are needed as your art is photographed in totally neutral lighting conditions,
however a test print is always made and compared with the original to
ensure an accurate reproduction.
